Spring is one of the very best times of the year to take a vacation in the Great Smoky Mountains! With warmer weather, beautiful scenery, and a variety of special seasonal events, springtime in the Smokies is truly magical. To help you make the most of your vacation, Great Outdoor Cabin Rentals has put together some tips for enjoying a spring getaway at our Tennessee Smoky Mountain cabins for rent.
1. Take a Scenic Hike in the National Park
Home to over 1,500 types of flowering plants, it’s no wonder that the Smokies are sometimes referred to as “Wildflower National Park”! One of the very best ways to enjoy the area’s beautiful blooms is to take a hike through the spring scenery. Here are a few of our favorite trails for taking in the majesty of the season:
- Cove Hardwood Nature Trail is an easy 0.75 mile hike with some of the best wildflower viewing in the national park.
- Little River Trail is a 4.9 mile hike featuring plenty of flowers and a lovely cascading stream.
- Middle Prong Trail is a challenging 8.3 mile hike that offers stunning waterfall views.
- The Appalachian Trail spans many miles and states, but the 2 mile section between Newfound Gap and Road Prong Trail is particularly beautiful from mid-April through May.

- Metcalf Bottoms
- Cades Cove
- Greenbrier
- Deep Creek
- Chimenys Picnic Area (opens in mid-March)

- Big Creek Picnic Area (opens in early-April)
